Paradox of choice

Choice is important, the consent of freedom is based on how much choice does one have. But these choices can sometimes become the very reason for not being able to achieve some of our goals. If you bare with me, I can explain. In this day and age we have an abundance of choices. So many that we waste a lot of time, time which is already.. really valuable. Time which ideally we should be using to pursue our dreams. Dreams like having a nice looking fit body.
Here is how information and choice overload hinders goals.
Starting out it seems that there are so many options. Information overload IS a problem.
Going through many of the options out there can be time consuming and confusing. We might not admit it but these choices can sometimes become excuses. The first steps are crucial in any goal/dream. I think the following are ideal points for anybody about to get started with their fitness goals. What I want to do is clarify which steps should be taken first.
Step 1: No more excuses
Stop delaying things from happening by giving yourself ultimatums. By delaying what we want, we’re really just pushing away from the ultimate goal. Instead of telling yourself, “I’ll start my new fitness goal on New Year’s”, why not start now? The sooner you begin, the sooner you will see change. It becomes easy to fall into a cycle of thinking up excuse after excuse on why something that could be done now, should be done later. But if you really want to accomplish something, the best way to start is now. Keep your mind focused and stay determined on what it is you want to ultimately do and don’t let anything distract you from it.

Step 2: Focus on a specific goal
These days there are simply too many options. From which gym to attend to which diet to start to or which workout is best for you. With so many choices, it’s not a surprise most people can’t find one to stick with and focus on. Whether you want to work on bodybuilding or do CrossFit or even group fitness, there is indeed something for everyone, you just have to figure out what it is that works best for you.
For some people, a ketogenic diet is exactly what they need to burn fat and change their body. For others, they need carbs to give them enough energy to properly complete their workout. What works for one person doesn’t always work for another. At the end of the day, only you can decide which choice is best for you in the long run in terms of your fitness goals. Anything that’s too difficult or too much of a change to your current status will have a lower chance of success. Try making a small change at first and experiment with what results you get. Eventually you are bound to find a fitness routine and diet plan that work for you and are able to give a long lasting result.

Step 3: Prepare
Humans are creatures of habit. The first couple of weeks can be difficult once a change in routine has been implemented. Perhaps you’re more tired with a tough workout or find yourself craving a specific food you can’t have anymore because of a restricted diet. The point is that when this happens, you will just have to acknowledge it, push through and then overcome it.
The best way to do so is to prepare yourself in advance. Make sure to pack your gym bag in advance, go grocery shopping in advance and prepare for the sleep deficit by working on trying to create a new sleep schedule. When you prepare properly enough, any change can be overcome with enough patience and time if you can prepare yourself properly.

You have to start sometime. The best time was yesterday, next best time is now.
